A survey investigated “Caring of Autism” in Hong Kong was conducted. Data was collected from Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Sha Tin and other regions by LoveXpress from Jul to Aug 2015. Total 352 respondents were successfully interviewed by random sampling.
For those replied aware of autism, 60% of the respondents identified general symptoms such as social skills development barriers and communication barriers. Less than 30% identified the autistics have repeating patterns of behavior, interests, and activities. Over 10% reported that they knew about autism, but unable to identify the symptoms.
Most of the respondents agreed that autistic group might have many unexpected behaviors and showed positive attitude towards the autistic group. About 50% respondents are willing to accept the autistic group as friends without discrimination. But less than 15% respondents are willing to be volunteers to assist them. The result reflects that there is insufficient support for the autistic families in the community.
